Forty-nine years! That sounds like a long time ago, especially to someone like my six year old grandson. On the other hand to me it almost seems like yesterday. Forty-nine years ago I graduated from Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, Iowa. Yes, next year it will be FIFTY! Well, what brought on this nostalgic walk down memory lane? Almost every day I read the home town newspaper the Ottumwa Courier online. I kiddingly tell my wife I do this to see if my name is in the obituary column.
In today’s edition was a photo of the 2012 graduating class and what a rush of memories that flooded forth as I recollected that day when I graduated. What a day! A lot has transpired in this world and in my world since that high school graduation. However forty-nine years is nothing compared to eternity! The Old Testament prophet Isaiah tells us “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” Isaiah 57:15.
Nevertheless, we live in the present, the here and now, called time, of which the New Testament writer James tells us “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” 4:14. Forty-nine years is a long time but it is also a very short time compared to eternity! Whatyareckon?
Did you read about a federal jury on Thursday, 24th of May, convicting “a Muslim soldier on six charges in connection with a failed plot to blow up a Texas restaurant full of Fort Hood troops, his religious mission to get ‘justice’ for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan”? This soldier faces up to life in prison with sentencing due in July. The incident for which this Muslim was convicted took place in 2011. Happily this was somewhat quick justice compared to the proceedings against the Muslim that shot and killed at least 13 fellow soldiers at Fort Hood. I have been searching for any information concerning this Fort Hood Muslim’s trial and finally some information has appeared. At http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Military/2011/0720/Alleged-Fort-Hood-shooter-Maj.-Nidal-Hasan-faces-March-2012-trial it says that “More than two years after the attack on military personnel at Fort Hood, accused shooter Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan now has a trial date: March 5, 2012.” Now, the United States Constitution’s Sixth Amendment guarantees all persons accused of criminal wrongdoing the right to a speedy trial. It may be argued what constitutes a “speedy trial”? Well, to some two years seems like an awful long time and a delay in a trial can either go for or against the accused. Could the delay in this trial favour the accused? Whatyareckon?
You may not agree with a North Carolina Pastor’s suggestion of what should be done with homosexuals and lesbians but it must be admitted he was right with his conclusion, that is if his plan was implemented. A simple observation of human reproduction and without any interference with such methods as IVF the outcome is fairly obvious! Don’t know what I am talking about. Check out the video and article at http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/22/video-of-north-carolina-pastors-plan-to-get-rid-of-gays-goes-viral/comment-page-101/ . Whatyareckon?
We have been away for a few days. I guess we are getting to that age where doctor appointments are a regular pass-time. Well, anyway what I want to blog about is the way words have changed and with the change has also come a lowering of morals.
Adultery is now just having an affair. Being a Sodomite has now been changed to being gay. Murder of the unborn is now simply abortion. As to this last change you may want to go to http://www.wnd.com/2012/05/now-non-doctors-plan-stunning-evil-for-babies/ and read what they want to do in California. The state that is broke may soon have “A taxpayer-funded pilot program…training people who are not physicians to do first-trimester vacuum aspiration surgical abortions – with as little as two days of instruction…” It is no surprise that “Sponsors of the legislation included Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California…” but it was surprising and sad that “it had the backing of the leaders of both houses of the Legislature.” Whatyareckon?
Had enough of the present Washington administration then go to http://freebeacon.com/ where “West Virginia inmate Keith Judd carried 41 percent of the vote in the Tuesday Democratic primary in the state. The Washington Free Beacon decided to imagine what a Judd campaign ad might look like.” Judd couldn’t do any worse than the One! Time for REAL change?! Whatyareckon?
It isn’t really new news or even surprising news that Obama has come out in favour of same sex marriage but what did surprise me is that some news reporters had the audacity to say Obama was brave in making this statement. BRAVE!? The Leftist media all praised Obama for his courageous “coming out” and condemned Romney for his opposition to same sex marriage. Personally, I believe the BRAVE person is the one who says they do not agree with accepting abortion, same sex marriage and all the other deviant issues and lifestyles that are being promoted to a gullible society! As most of us who live in Australia know the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is far from being a conservative voice. At http://www.abc.net.au/tv/qanda/txt/s3489812.htm one may view the ABC programme Q & A for Monday 30 April, 2012. The last Question for the programme was “PARLIAMENT PRAYERS – Helen Heath asked: ‘In the 2006 Census, less than two-thirds of Australians identified themselves as Christian. In Dandenong, we celebrate this diversity and at the start of each local council meeting, a prayer is offered by a faith leader from a different religious community on a rotational basis. Is it time for the opening of Commonwealth and State parliaments to be marked by not only the Lord’s Prayer but also prayers from a variety of religious traditions?”’
The ecumenical forget where our nation came from philosophy. The only voice for continuing only with the Lord’s Prayer was federal Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella and she was booed! Where were the anti-bullying police!? Whatyareckon?
